In spring of 2023 we are continuing our irrigation work. In the two villages Beya and Seya Jangal the villagers need irrigation pools to water their almond trees and plant wheat and vegetables. Irrigation structures like small pools serve as water reservoirs and facilitate water management. It allows increasing the amount of land under cultivation and increases the number of trees that can be irrigated. This will improve the incomes and food security of the villagers and it will strengthen their resilience in the face of climate change.
The locals gathered at the site of the pool and explained to Naim, our local project manager, what they intend to do and what they hope to achieve by building a pool. Here you can see some of the villagers of Seya Jangal.
DARYA is supporting the initiative of the locals by providing the necessary building materials. Our work is supported by private donations and the NGO Jugend Eine Welt. The costs of the pools are relatively low – only about 70.000 Afghani or roughly 800 Euros – because the villagers will use local materials but they will make a huge difference in the lives of the people. We want to be able to implement more of these projects – please support us!

Update
Work on the pools is progressing fast. We delivered construction material to both sites. Here on the right you can see how our local team is collecting sand for concrete for the pool in Seya Jangal. And below you can see how the sand and all the other material, most of it cement, is delivered to Seya Jangal.
In just about two weeks after the delivery the villagers in Seya Jangal managed to complete most of the work.
The pool in Beya is already complete and the people are using it as an irrigation water retention pool.
