Almond trees are an important cash crop for the people in rural Daikundi. In spring and summer, we have helped villagers improve their irrigation structures to water their trees. Now in late November and early December it is the perfect time to plant new trees.
In Sarawood, Mr. Khodabakhsh has a small tree growing business and he sells saplings. We bought 1800 saplings for 50 Afghani each. Then the saplings were distributed to 45 families who live in different villages in Miramor district of Daikundi. Each family received about 40 saplings.
Mr. Khodabakhsh also explained to the people how to take care of the saplings and what to take into account when planting. We hope the saplings will grow to become large fruit bearing almond trees.
Our objective is to help the people earn an income from their land and become economically independent. However, planting trees has great additional benefits, as each tree will absorb CO2 from the atmosphere while growing. Planting trees on previously barren land is a great way to combat climate change and our best available option to reverse climate change. Over the next 60 years the saplings we bought in 2022 will absorb 1000 tons of CO2.
Another 700 trees
In Barkar, we planted another 700 trees. We bought the saplings from Kabul to get special kinds of almonds and transported them to Daikundi, Barkar, where the trees were distributed and planted.
Thank you Miss.Fanny to your supporting this good project.
