An irrigation channel for Bagh

We want to help 40 families in the vicinity of Bagh with an irrigation channel. There is a spring about 2 kilometers away, but the water from the spring gets lost quickly. The villagers want to use the water to irrigate their almond trees.

In summer 2022, we supported the construction of a channel from the spring to the almond trees with 120.000 Afghani. The villagers will assume the remaining costs themselves.

The villagers gathered to discuss the project and to record a video for us.

Jugend eine Welt is helping us implement a number of small projects, including this one.

Here, Naim explains where the channel is supposed to start and where they want to take the water.

Update: The hoses for the channel arrive

The hoses that are necessary for this type of project are not available in the market in Chabrasak, where Naim usually buys most of the material. So, it was necessary to have them delivered from Kabul. Here you can see the hoses being unloaded in Chabrasak.

Below you can see the villagers from Bagh collect the hoses and take them to their lands. Transporting the hoses is challenging.

Update: Work is ongoing

The villagers are digging the channel for the hoses. This is a joint effort of the villagers.

The hoses are buried underground so that they are protected against the elements.

Many thanks go to our cofinancing partner Jugend eine Welt
