In the village Deh-no we helped the villagers replace an old and unsafe concrete water tank. Now, they have a new stainless steel tank to safely store their drinking water and hoses to take the water to their houses. This will help them save water and use the water in a more efficient way.
This is the old concrete water tank.
Concrete is unsuitable for drinking water storage as it becomes porous and can dissipate contaminants.
Here you can see the villagers transport the new stainless steel water tank. They had to buy it in Ghazni and transport it all the way to Deh-no in the Barkar area.
The last part of the way in the village Deh-no the villagers had to carry the water tank to its destination. They also used a donkey to carry part of the materials uphill.
The villagers also bought hoses and drainages to lead the water from the tank to the houses. There are twelve houses in the area and every two houses will get a water dispensation point.
Here you can see some of the work that is being carried out now to dig a channel for the water hoses to take the water to the houses.
Thank you to Jugend eine Welt for supporting this project! In this video, Keshwar Mirzaie is explaining about the project in English. Keshwar is a student in 11th grade from Barkar area and now she is supporting our project team. We are happy to have her on board.
Update: New drinking water faucets
The villagers have completed the project and have built six new drinking water faucets for the houses in Deh no. Here you can see them test the faucets. Also, for the first time, we are using the new name and logo of our initiative: Darya.
